Ontario offers a wide variety of early years’ programs and services. It aims to develop a system in which all children and families have access to high-quality, inclusive and affordable early years and child care programs and services that are child-and family-centred and contribute to children’s learning, development and well-being.
Convinced that learning begins with play and inquiry, all French-language school boards in Ontario offer the Kindergarten program (2016) for children starting at age 4. This program recognizes that, today and in the future, children need to be critically literate in order to synthesize information, make informed decisions, communicate effectively, and thrive in an ever-changing global community.
In addition, some school boards offer programs for 3-year-old children. Many also offer child care services starting at 18 months.
