Time to choose! Admission to an FLE school!

In the past few weeks, you have visited our Web site and read our blog. You have discovered that French-language education in Ontario has many advantages and considerable added value. You have gathered information and now you must make an informed decision.

Do you want to know who is entitled to French-language education in Ontario?

The short answer: all interested individuals.

That’s right! Under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Ontario Education Act, very few people must eliminate the option of French-language schools when comes time to chose a school for their child.

French–language Schools Open Doors to New Students

How to apply to French-language schools?

Parents who wish to send their child to a French-language school must submit an application to the school’s principal.

Each school board will have its own admission policy. Schools will be able to explain how to submit an application and what documents are needed.

What document are required?

Documents required will likely include:

Proof of the student’s age

Proof of the place of residence of the student or parent(s)

The student’s academic record

The student’s immunization record

What are the admission criteria?

School boards’ admission policies will clearly explain how student applications are processed. The admission criteria will include the following information:

  • The student’s level of competence in French
  • The student’s interest in learning French
  • The extent of the use of French and/or the presence of aspects of French culture in the
  • Family home
  • The importance that the student’s parent(s) attach to the language and culture of the French-speaking community
  • Parent commitment to support the student’s academic development in French.

The admission committee will also give the parent an idea of the timeframe and how the information will be transmitted.
